First, we will hear from Deb Levinson, the Chair of the Voluntary Certification Testing Committee. Deb and her team have spent countless hours creating CertifyNow, a complete overhaul of our online certification testing. The program launched on May 1.

Next, we will hear from Ambria Ianazzi, who is the newest member of our Board.  She is a freelance realtime reporter and wowed the audience at our student panel back in February. She will talk about the importance of realtime and how it sets us apart from other methods of capturing speech to text.

Marina Dubson, the Chair of our brand-new Social Media Committee, will then speak about exciting new and creative ways we are bringing members together.

Eric Allen, the president of the Association of Surrogates and Supreme Court Reporters, will be speaking about the response to the April 2021 Future Trials Report. The ASSCR union and NYSCRA teamed up to craft a letter that informs the Office of Court Administration that a study on implementing AI or other means for trial transcription is not only unwarranted, but it will impair access to justice.

Dineen Squillante is a passionate and involved freelance reporter, and a member of NCRA STRONG. She will present ideas how to advocate for freelance and official reporting. While the majority of NYSCRA’s members are officials, we want our association to be equally valuable to our freelance members and fight for the profession just as strongly.

Finally, Board member Chris Day will talk about an exciting legislative development pertaining to remote swearing in of witnesses, a topic that has confused and vexed reporters even before the pandemic began. We are working with NYS lawmakers and making strides on a bill that, if passed, will end the confusion once and for all.

As you can see, this event seeks to unify us. And that is not all we have planned! Stay tuned for even more exciting developments and training opportunities from NYSCRA.

Hope to see you on May 16, NYSCRA members!

The event is free of charge, but we ask all members to register. Registrations are limited; Zoom connection details will be in your registration confirmation email.
