Mentoring Program

NYSCRA INITIATES MENTORING PROGRAM

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

NYSCRA is committed to, among other goals, increasing enrollment and retention rates at New York’s court reporting schools. This is essential to every reporter in New York because if we cannot maintain a large enough pool of reporters from which all verbatim reporting needs can be met, then attorneys, judges and others will have no option but to utilize electronic recording. This can potentially impact every court reporter – officials, independent freelancers, firm owners, even captioners.

To increase retention rates, we are seeking volunteers to act as a "mentor" to a court reporting student – to provide encouragement, helpful hints for speedbuilding, a positive outlook for the future, whatever support the student needs to keep him or her in reporting school. It may be as simple as an occasional e-mail to the student, or, if you and the student wish, you may even want to get together for lunch or invite the student to shadow you for a day. The level of involvement is totally up to you.

If you would like to become a mentor, fill-in this form or please call, write or e-mail me with your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and tell me what type of reporting you are doing currently. Matching will begin soon thereafter. If you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to contact the following at any time.
